Walnut Way - Macadamia project
The construction of a state-of-the-art, full-cycle Macadamia nut processing plant will increase production and exports, which will significantly improve the environmental situation in several regions of Kenya and also significantly improve the economic well-being of rural communities in these regions
The goal is to increase economic activity and create new jobs in rural communities in kenya's regions by addressing environmental sustainability issues through agricultural development and technological processing of macadamia nuts. realization of new opportunities for export of macadamia nut from kenya to the us and eu markets
Problems & Solutions

- Environmental problems of the regions related to untimely harvesting due to lack or limited capacity to process ripe Macadamia nut fruits
DESPITE THE HIGH DEMAND FOR MACADAMIA NUT, FARMERS FACE PROBLEMS WITH ITS PROCESSING AND MARKETING:
- Sale of unprocessed Macadamia nut by farmers at economically disadvantageous terms to third countries (where the nut is processed and then exported to US and European markets)
- Lack of means and technologies for processing of ripe Macadamia nut
THE LACK OF A LARGE FULL-CYCLE MACADAMIA NUT PROCESSING FACILITY AFFECTS THE QUALITY OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT:
- Risk of damaging the nut if not processed properly due to the varied sizes and shapes of the nuts
- Difficulty in separating the nut kernel from the shell
- Difficulty in removing shell residue and other undesirable elements during processing
- Difficulties in maintaining optimum humidity and temperature to preserve the quality of nuts
- Risk of disease and crop damage due to failure to maintain optimum processing and storage conditions
- Difficulties in waste management and further processing of by-products
- The relatively short shelf life of unprocessed nuts, which requires special storage conditions and quick and efficient processing after harvesting of the Macadamia nut

Macadamia nut is an important agricultural product in Kenya. WAY TO AFRICA Charitable Foundation draws attention to the problem of harvesting and processing of Macadamia nut, which is faced by almost all Kenyan farmers cultivating this crop. Realizing that the Macadamia nut is an important source of income for a significant number of farmers and ranchers and one of Kenya's key agricultural resources, the Foundation has decided to support farmers in its effective utilization.
CONSTRUCTION OF MODERN PROCESSING COMPLEXES IN DIFFERENT REGIONS OF KENYA, WHERE MACADAMIA NUT GROWS EN MASSE AND THERE IS NO INFRASTRUCTURE FOR ITS PROCESSING
The WAY TO AFRICA Charitable Foundation has developed a project for the construction of a Macadamia nut processing plant
The project aims to improve the environmental and economic situation on Kenya's South Coast, around Nairobi and in the Western part of the country, including Nakuru district, where the most significant amount of Macadamia nut is grown.
The Foundation has launched a fundraiser to raise funds for the purchase of specialized full-service equipment and the construction of a Macadamia nut processing facility on the outskirts of Nairobi
The funds raised will be used to purchase state-of-the-art environmentally friendly equipment for processing, drying, cleaning and packing of Macadamia nut Macadamia nut is a valuable raw material on the world market and it opens additional perspectives for the development of nut processing production and further export to the USA and European Union countries.
THE REALIZATION OF THIS PROJECT WILL ALLOW IN THE LONG TERM TO CHANNEL SIGNIFICANT FUNDS FOR FURTHER SYSTEMIC IMPROVEMENT OF THE ECOLOGICAL SITUATION IN THE REGION AND SUBSEQUENT INTEGRATED DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE, THROUGH:
- Investment: the Fund intends to invest in agricultural projects to improve the quality and increase crop yields through the use of bio-organic fertilizers and plant protection products, which will significantly improve soil quality, reduce the risk of pollution of water resources and as a consequence will allow the production of environmentally friendly crops, more competitive agricultural products for export and this will significantly increase the income of local agricultural producers
- Infrastructure: part of the revenues will be used to implement efficient drainage and drip irrigation systems for optimal use of water resources, to drill boreholes and construct wells, which will ensure permanent access to clean water in remote areas and prevent disease and hunger for the local population
- Research and development: the Fund plans to provide ongoing funding for research projects on bio-organic fertilizers and crop protection products, which will contribute to the development of a sustainable agricultural sector and significantly improve its competitiveness
Participation in the project will demonstrate the interest and support of the global community in addressing environmental and social problems of Kenya's regions. It will also help to shorten the project implementation timeframe by ensuring stable funding at all stages of project implementation.
The funds raised will be used with maximum efficiency to achieve the set goals and solve urgent problems.
WAY TO AFRICA ENCOURAGES YOU TO SUPPORT THIS PROJECT AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS IMPORTANT INITIATIVE.

Faced with these intractable problems, farmers are forced to sell unprocessed nuts to third countries at low and unprofitable prices or lose the crop altogether, resulting not only in financial losses for local farmers, but also in significant environmental and climatic problems in the Macadamia nut growing regions
- Alteration of soil composition: nuts left on the land cause deterioration of soil structure, loss of soil fertility and increased erosion, which adversely affects farming conditions and outcomes
- Increased biomass: unharvested nuts provide a source of organic material that promotes vegetation growth and increased biomass, which significantly affects the carbon cycle and atmospheric carbon dioxide balance
- Increased fire risk: dry nuts on the ground significantly increase the risk of fire occurrence and spread during dry periods, often resulting in the burning of tens of thousands of different trees
- Loss of biodiversity: unharvested nuts create favorable conditions for additional weed growth, resulting in a significant reduction of biodiversity in the region. The lack of biodiversity leads to a significant reduction and even complete disappearance of some plant species in the region, leading to further imbalance in the ecosystem of entire districts and regions
- Decreased water-holding capacity of the soil: nuts on the ground interfere with the water permeability of the soil, which impairs the ability to retain moisture
- Increase in pest population: unharvested nuts become an attractive food source for various rodents, resulting in a multiple increase in pest populations (rats and mice) and a significant deterioration of agricultural and sanitation conditions over large areas
- Deterioration of air quality: nut rotting contributes to the release of methane and other gases into the atmosphere, which significantly deteriorates air quality and increases the greenhouse effect
- Threat to human health: unharvested nuts are susceptible to rotting and become a source of pathogens that cause various diseases in humans, including infectious diseases and various poisonings
- Attraction of wildlife: unharvested nuts attract wildlife such as elephants, monkeys and birds. This often leads to conflicts between humans and wildlife and carries additional collision risks and often fatalities for humans
These impacts emphasize the importance of nut harvesting and subsequent processing to maintain ecological balance and biodiversity in the region, as well as significantly improve the economic well-being of Macadamia nut farming communities
The problem of Macadamia nut processing needs to be addressed as soon as possible in order to To maintain the ecological balance of these regions of Kenya and to support sustainable development of rural communities in these regions of the country

The WAY TO AFRICA Charitable Foundation will publish regular progress reports on the construction of the plant on its official website.
Regular updates will be posted on the foundation's social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, to inform investors and stakeholders of the project's progress.
The fund's annual report, which contains detailed financial information about the project and the results achieved, will be available for download on the website under “Our impact” and distributed to partners and investors. The Fund intends to cooperate with local and international organizations to conduct independent audits and assess the project's effectiveness.
WAY TO AFRICA will create an interactive platform within the website, where all stages of the plant construction, environmental indicators and social effects will be posted.
The project will organize “Welcome Days”, when investors and partners will be able to visit the plant and see its work in person.
